Fiber optic

A dielectric waveguide whose core is made of optically transparent material with low attenuation and whose cladding is made of optically transparent material with a lower refractive index than the core. It is used for transmitting signals using electromagnetic waves in the optical frequency range. They can be made of glass or polymer optical fibers. Highly transparent plastics such as polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) are used for optical fibers.
